Ruby Monasmith

Ruby Elizabeth Bauer Monasmith born January 31, 1929 to Louis and Grace (Hyler-Rooch) Bauer. She was the 6th of 9 brothers and sisters. Ruby was raised on a Sioux County ranch, where she cared for sheep, horses, cattle and turkeys.

She attended Hawthorne elementary school and graduated from Sioux County High School in 1948 in Harrison, Nebraska. In 1950 she married John Fredrick Monasmith. To their union were born 3 girls – Ava Lynn, Elizabeth Kay (Liz), and Fay Ann.

Ruby lived almost her entire life in Sioux county, Nebraska. She, John, and their 3 girls moved to their home place of 58 years on October 9, 1960, where the raised shorthorn and black angus cattle and targhee sheep. Ruby enjoyed her horses, cats, dogs, and chickens. She was an avid horse woman, riding her entire life. She was honored by “Ride the Ridge” as one of their honorary trail bosses.

She was also known to be an excellent cook and hostess to anyone who came to her door. She loved to garden and raised many beautiful flowers and fruit trees.

Ruby was preceded in death by her infant son John Allen, parents, brothers, Charles, Lynn, Duane, and Marvin. Sisters, Grace Knights, Lois Stephens, and Linda Olson. Brother in law; Arthur Knights and sister in law Edna (Fox) Bauer and son in law John Sprock.

She is survived by husband John, daughters, Ava (Bill) Hawthorne, Liz Sprock, and Fay (Jamie) Rudolph. Brother Stanley Bauer, brother in law John Kissack, Evert Stephens, Rick Olson. Sister in laws, June (Barber) Bauer, Marjorie (Monasmith) Kissack. Grandsons, Jeff Sprock (Angelique), Brian Hawthorne, Josh Sprock (April), Aaron Sprock (Kristle). Granddaughters Angie Copper (Al), Laura Copper (Mike). 13 Great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.

Services will be held at the First Congregational Church in Crawford, Nebraska. A memorial has been established for the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department, or the Crawford Animal Companion Clinic. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron NE 69337.
