Funeral Services for Shirley Knuth will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota with Dr. Russ Seger officiating. A vigil will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, Nebraska with Fr. Todd Philipsen officiating.
Shirley Ann Knuth, 89, of Chadron, Nebraska passed away March 6, 2021. She was born at home on the farm near Butterfield, MN on July 24, 1931 to Henry and Hazel Wolff. She attended school in Fairmont, MN and graduated from Albert Lea, MN in 1949. Shirley married Fred Knuth in 1984 and enjoyed 36 wonderful years together. After retiring, they enjoyed travelling in their fifth wheel to many places. Their favorite was in Texas along the ocean. She enjoyed reading, travelling, and was a life long democrat. She was employed in various administrative positions throughout the years. She also was an instructor with the civil air patrol. She instructed history, aerial flight navigation and observation. She was a first lieutenant and enjoyed watching her students succeed. Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents, Henry and Hazel (Law) Wolff, her first husband William Pardee, her son Harold Dean Nelson, and her mother-in-law Minnie Knuth. She is survived by her loving husband Fred Knuth, her sister Patricia (Jerry Willits), her children Celia Fahl, Patti Lane (Greg Moore), Mary Jo Nelson, Julie Nelson, Liz (Keith Paskey), and Jenny (Bruce Vanderford). She also has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial has been established for the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Prairie Pines. Donations can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
