Stanley Reed Scherbarth, 86, passed away peacefully in his home April 14, 2014. He was born March 13, 1928. On May 26, 1951, he married Rose Mary Whiting of Morrill, NE. They made their home in rural Hay Springs, NE. Their union created five children. Stan and Rose made the farm, ranch, later the mail route, of 42 years, their livelihood. He was a lifetime member of the Angus Association. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He also had a life time hunting/fishing license. He taught all his children to fire and shoot all kinds of firearms. As a family man, he raised his children never to judge, and to be fair and honest. He was a loving figure to everyone who needed him. He supported his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews with all their sports endeavors. Whenever a grandchild/great grandchild was born, he had to be the one to hold the new baby when it came home. Later: the going phrase of the grandchildren was: "don't tell Grandpa..." Survivors include his children: Deanna Ferguson, Jim (Roseann) Scherbarth, Rita Kelly and Dan, Tim Scherbarth and Kelly; and Daryl (Rachel) Scherbarth. Grandchildren include Kelly (Rhonda) Schafer; TJ (Holly) Scherbarth; Amy Scherbarth; Justin (Stephanie) Scherbarth; Keith (Adriene) Kelly; Kevin Kelly; Katie and Thomas Scherbarth; and Haden Scherbarth. He had nine great grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Robert (Nellie) Scherbarth of Aurora, CO; and their children. Proceeding him in death was his mother Margarita Baker; his father E.J. Scherbarth; his brother, Don (and wife and daughter); his wife Rose Mary. Services will be Thursday, April, 17, 2014, at the Chamberlain Chapel, Chadron, NE. at 1:00pm. Burial will take place in the Hay Springs City Cemetery following the service. The family suggests: the Rainbow House, in Omaha, NE. It is a house for families to stay when their children are hospitalized for treatment. And, the Hay Springs Youth Baseball Fields for bleachers and additional needs.
