Wayne Allen Farrar, 87, of Chadron, died May 22, 2014 at Prairie Pines in Chadron, Nebraska. Wayne was born June 17, 1926 at Wellfleet, Nebraska to Harold Allen Farrar and Eva Alice (Limback) Farrar. He graduated from Maywood High School and attended a semester of college in Kansas. He entered the US Army on June 6, 1945 at Fort Logan, Colorado. He served with the 57th Medical Base Depot Company and was stationed in Leghorn, Italy. He was discharged on Feb 3, 1947 at Sheridan, Illinois. Wayne played town team ball at Maywood and Mullen. He was a past member of the American Legion, Elks, and was a 60+ member of the Masons. He enjoyed playing cards and taught all of his children to play Cribbage at an early age. Upon returning from the service he farmed with his father until the flood and tornado took the farm house. At which time they moved into Maywood. On June 2, 1950 he married Barbara Hope Hammond of Moorefield at the Maywood Methodist Church. They lived at Maywood, Mullen and Curtis. He farmed, ranched, worked at the Curtis Co-op and the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture (from which he retired). They also owned the cafe in Curtis and Hi-Line Motel in Curtis. Barb preceded him in death on Sep 2, 1991. On August 14, 1993 Wayne married Delores Gasseling Cotant at the Methodist Church in Curtis, Nebraska. Dee and Wayne enjoyed retirement with trips to the Bahamas, Branson and visiting family in multiple states. They moved to the ranch at Hemingford, Nebraska in 1999. Wayne loved living in the country and all aspects of helping with ranch life. Attending church services and fellowship with family and friends were very special to him. One of the recent highlights was being able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with his son Roger. He is survived by his wife Delores of Hemingford, children: Roger (Jolene) Farrar of Kearney their daughter Shawna Culotta and her son Carter of York ; Sue (Ken) Knolles of North Platte their sons Brian Knolles and his son Ashton, and Derrick Knolles all of North Platte; Harold (Melody) Farrar of Kimball their sons Seth(Lindsey) Sweley of Laramie, Wyoming and Ross (Samantha) Sweley of Kansas; Michelle (Kris) Wilson of McCook and their children Kayla Wilson (A.J. McDonald) of Culbertson , Marcus Wilson of Peachtree, Georgia; Marc (Kyla) Cotant and their children Tyrell, Landrie, Wyatt, Kinlee of Hemingford; Sarah (Corey) Jenkins of Valentine; Steve (Laurie) Cotant and their children Jessica, Allison, Shirley of Henry. He is also survived by his brother Keith (Barb) Farrar of Colorado, sister-in-law Nell Hammond of McCook and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife Barbara, sisters Margery (Lester) Barger, Virginia (Wilbert) Ericksen, Dorothy Templeton, brother-in-laws Richard (Eleanor) Hammond, Gail Hammond. Services will be at the Chadron Berean Church at 11:00 AM (MDT) Tuesday May 27th with graveside services and burial at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell at 11:00 AM (CDT) Wednesday May 28th. Memorials are to the Berean Church at Chadron or to the Honor Flight of your choice.
