William "Bill" Wigington Jr.
Bill Wigington of Chadron, Nebraska passed away November 18, 2024.
Bill was born July 28th, 1936, in Huron, South Dakota to William and Elva Wigington. He was raised in Huron and attended high school there, while there he met his future bride, Rita Justus.
Immediately after graduating high school in 1955 Bill joined the US Air Force where, after basic training at Parks AFB in California, he served in multiple locations across the world. He received specialist training in cryptology and after being stationed in locations including Spain, Scotland, Ireland, England, Turkey and more, he was honorably discharged as an Airman second class. Then, returning to Huron, Bill acquired the first of several positions within Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
On July 28, 1960, Bill married his high school sweetheart Rita Justus. They resided in Huron and in 1961 their first child, Kyle, was born. Their second child Kayleen arrived in 1964.
Bill's career with the C&NW required that the young family relocate to Chadron, Nebraska, in late 1969 where Bill and Rita remained for the rest of their days. Sports and extracurricular activities of their children Kyle and Kayleen were never missed by either parent, not to mention their love of the Nebraska Cornhuskers never wavered.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman, lawn care aficionado and gardener of all things that grew. He was hunting, trapping or fishing since he was a toddler. During his life, many friends and family members participated in these activities with Bill. His outdoor skills were more than admirable and the spoils he received also fed his family and friends and neighborhood.
Bill retired from the railroad in 1991 after 32 years. He continued his lawn care, gardening, hunting, fishing, traveling and daily "coffee” with the coffee table gang. Bill raised his family in Chadron and remained married to Rita until her death in 2021.
He was preceded in death by Rita, his wife of 61 years, his parents, a nephew Mark Wigington, his sister-in-law Barb McKichan, sister-in-law Kathy Wigington, and brother-in-law Lloyd Eisman.
Bill is survived by his children Kyle ( Sherry ), Kayleen ( Dan ), his brother Richard and sister Virginia. Two grandchildren Dustin Hall and Kit Wigington. Nieces Lisa Hastings and Lynette Eiseman and nephews Alvin, Paul and Darrell Eiseman.
