Doris Hicks

Doris J. Hicks, 89 of Martin, S.D. passed away May 17th at her home in Martin surrounded by her family.

Doris J. Hicks was born on November 27, 1933, in Pine Ridge, S.D to Martin and Blossom Allen. In 1951 she married the love of her life Neil Hicks of Martin, S.D. Neil and Doris had four children LeRoy, Dorothy, Jackie, and Karen. Doris also had 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchild, 4 great-great grandchildren. Doris’ children and grandkids thought the world of her.

Doris was an active member of both St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church and the Martin Community. Doris started working as a nurse for the Martin Clinic in 1964 after her husband’s first heart attack. She worked at the Clinic until it closed then she moved to the Bennett County Hospital and Nursing Home and worked there until she retired in 2006.

Doris was a very special and unique lady that many people adored and cherished. Doris was a huge inspiration to all her family and everyone she met. Doris will be greatly missed my many.

Doris is survived by her children, LeRoy Hicks of Martin, Dorothy Scherer of Martin, Karen (David) Bakley of Martin and three sisters Judy, Kathy and Peggy and all her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Blossom Allen, her husband Neil Hicks, Son Jackie Hicks, Sister Carol and Brothers Donnie and Philip.

Graveside services will be held Monday, May 22, 2023, 11:00am at the Martin Community Cemetery. Bennett County Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
