Douglas John Jacobson born on November 30, 1959, in Rushville, Nebraska, to Myron and Virginia Jacobson of Clinton, Nebraska, the fifth of six children, passed away July 3, 2021, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will Thursday July 8, 2021, from 5 to 7 pm at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon, NE. Graveside service will be Friday July 9, 2021, 10:00 am at the Gordon Cemetery with Dr. Jason Funk officiating. All family and friends of Douglas are welcome to all the services.
Douglas grew up on the family farm two miles southwest of Clinton, NE. Douglas attended grades K-8th at the Clinton Grade School in Clinton, NE. He attended Gordon High School where he was active with basketball, football and track. He was always involved with 4-H activities showing cattle. After graduating from Gordon High School in 1978, he worked on the family farm until moving to the Phoenix, Arizona area. He worked in business related jobs there before returning to Gordon. Douglas worked again at the family farm, and at that time he began to build his own cattle herd. Douglas also worked for a time at the First National Bank in Gordon, NE.
Douglas loved time with family and friends. His nieces and nephews Anne, Charlotte, Dawn, Danielle, Michael, Erik, Joe and Denie have very fond memories of time with Uncle Doug. He was an uncle who would make it possible for hunting, bike riding, horse riding, feeding calves, tractor and four-wheel rides, playing games and cards. He always had time for good heart to heart talks and telling jokes and all actions were done with a loving sense of humor. Douglas had many lifelong friends and family that have a special memory of him and will miss him dearly.
Douglas is survived by siblings Michael (wife Allison), Barbara (husband Dan), Jared (wife Wendy), and Merlyn (wife Roberta); nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews: Brook, Pierce, Cruz, Ashley, Avianna, Dylan and Lianna; two aunts, Eleanor Strasburger and Bobbie Burleigh and many cousins from both the Jacobson and Burleigh families.
He was preceded in death by his parents Myron and Virginia Jacobson, brother Dennis Jacobson and an infant brother, his grandparents Louis and Gertrude Burleigh and Henry and Sophia Jacobson, aunts, uncles, and a cousin, Nick Heinen.
A memorial has been established and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
