Gordon Gerald Greenamyre, 92, of Gordon Nebraska departed this life on May 28, 2020.
He was born on October 3, 1927 in Royal Nebraska to Gerald and Loma. In 1928 the family moved to Sheridan County where they lived on a farm south of Gordon. He attended school in the Gordon area, graduating in 1945. After graduation, in September 1946, he enlisted in the military until his honorable discharge in June 1949. During his years in the service he served as Staff Sergeant, stationed in Okinawa Japan.
Upon arriving home, he returned to his family farm, he then began working with Ralph Strong learning the construction trade. In 1952 he began his own company, Greenamyre Contractor and builder, where he continued working until he was no longer able to do so. During this time he was involved in building many houses, buildings, and provided other construction work in many places throughout Nebraska and South Dakota; including building Standard Oil Stations all over Nebraska.
On January 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Van Briggle. He built them a home on 175 Sheridan Street where they raised their 6 children, and also 3 of their grandchildren.
Besides working, Gordon had many hobbies and interests throughout his life; he acted in many plays, played checkers whenever he could at The Cowboy Museum, rode and collected antique tractors, and attended many auctions. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Rushville American Legion Henry Davis Post #161. He served on the Gordon Memorial Hospital board, the school board, and the city council. He was a member of both the Hwy 20 Antique Tractor Club, doing many rides with them, and the Nebraska Antique Farming Association, which he participated in the TRAN relays 4 times. In September 2012, he was able to participate in Honor Flight, being taken to DC with other veteran’s and in September 2019 he was presented with the Quilt of Valor for his service in the military.
He is survived by his sister Margaret Nelson, Sons Gregg Greenamyre (Loretta), Steve Greenamyre (Sherisse), and Todd Greenamyre (Shelly), Daughter Kathy Jueneman (Greg). 19 Grandchildren and 28 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Parents Gerald & Loma Greenamyre, Wife Lorraine Greenamyre, Sons Bryon Greenamyre and Howard Greenamyre, Brother Dale Greenamyre, Sister Leona Hancock, and Grandsons David Gressley and Izak Gressley.
Funeral will be held June 2, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers are Garret Greenamyre, Christina Greenamyre, Meagan Garcia, Clay Greenamyre, Adam Greenamyre, and Max Jueneman.
A memorial has been established for the Tri-State Cowboy Museum, HWY 20 Tractor Club or the Rushville American Legion and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
