July 20, 1934 – April 23, 2020

Jackie Carson, 85, of Hay Springs passed on April 23, 2020 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs.

Jackie was born Jacquelyn Arleen Reed on July 20th, 1934 in Woonsocket, South Dakota to Delbert and Alice (Woodward) Reed. She lived many years in Rapid City, S.D. where she and her first husband William (Bill) Brandt raised their four children. She was very involved with her kids as a leader for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. In the early 80’s she married her 2nd husband, Lyle Carson and eventually they moved to Hay Springs, NE. Jackie worked for the Head Start program in Hay Springs for many years. After she retired she was a “Foster Grandparent” at the Noah’s Ark preschool. She loved children and all the children loved her and affectionately called her “Grandma Jackie”.

Her surviving family includes her children: Debbie (Paul) Parker, Sumter, SC, Mark (Deb) Brandt, Albia, IA, Mike (Cathy) Brandt, Chula Vista, CA, and Tami Thomasson (Jim Hare) Clearfield, UT, as well as her step-children: Sheryl Carson, Colby KS, Mary (Delbert) Hindman, Hay Springs, NE, Mike (Sue) Carson, Las Vegas, NV, and David Carson, North Platte, NE.

She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Heather Townsend, Bethany Page, Jonathon Brandt, Stephanie Simon, Mikayla Gucilator, Tiffany Coates, Aaron Brandt, David Thomasson, and Alex Thomasson and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by 5 step grandchildren: Shawn Hindman, Tammy Robinson, Alicia Wright, Tara Wilson, and Micki Carson and 10 step great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Richard Reed, Marilyn Mutter, Karen Hegre, and Connie Lou Reed as well as her husband, Lyle Carson

A graveside funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hay Springs, on April 24th, 2020.

A memorial fund has been established for the Noah’s Ark Preschool in Jackie’s honor. The family is also accepting donations to help cover the funeral expenses.
