Paul Anderson

Whiteclay

Paul James Anderson was born on January 27, 1960, at the Rushville Hospital in Rushville, Nebraska, to Donald Anderson and Joann (Sydow) Anderson. As a young boy the family lived in Merriman, Nebraska, then in 1966 they moved to the Prokop Ranch southwest of Rushville, until Paul started high school. His father then started work on the Conrad Bauer Ranch west of Rushville, where the family lived and worked throughout his high school years. After graduating from Rushville High School in 1978, he attended Western Nebraska Technical College for heavy equipment operations in Sidney, Nebraska. He then went to work for the Sheridan County Road Department in Rushville, until he was offered a job at the Jumping Eagle Inn in Whiteclay, Nebraska.

In 1981, Paul felt the call to public service and was hired on at the Sheridan County Sheriff's Department, where he served as a Deputy and then Chief of Police for a total of 22 years. Paul also served on the Rushville Volunteer Department from 1988 until his last days.

On May 25, 1996, he married Catherine Ann (Talbot) Moss with whom he spent 26 wonderful years and who he lovingly referred to as “Kate”. They traveled whenever they could, loved helping out with cattle drives and brandings at the Bayne Ranch, and enjoyed taking off on back road adventures. Paul had an appreciation and a talent for taking beautiful pictures and was a proficient and eloquent writer. Paul loved the Lord and faithfully attended church and Bible study. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

In 2004, he continued his career in public service and started work with the State of South Dakota Child Welfare Department, where he was employed until he went to his Lord on April 25, 2022, at the age of 62, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Donald Anderson and mother Joann (Sydow) Anderson.

Paul is survived by his wife Catherine, her son Lance Moss and wife Copper, her daughter Trina (Moss) Bayne and husband Ron.
