Vicki Roberts

July 23, 1954 — November 1, 2021

Vicki Jane Roberts was peacefully called to Heaven on November 1st, 2021. Born in Hot Springs, SD, on July 23rd, 1954, to Herbert W. & Velma “Sally” Rickenbach. She was the third of four daughters. In her early years Vicki attended Oelrichs Elementary School and later graduated from the Oglala Community High School on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She immersed herself in the Lakota Sioux culture of the Native Americans, making many friends and memories along the way. Her spirit so worthy she was gifted an honorary tribal membership and continued to serve her Pine Ridge community throughout her life. Vicki Jane married Darroll Dean Roberts on January 22, 1977. Together they had three children; Brad Allen, Sally Ann, and Deana Mae. Although their marriage ended, ties with their children kept them connected throughout the years and neither since remarried. Vicki was a servant of God; mostly serving Him by serving others. She obtained her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and there began her service to the Chadron community. She volunteered as often as she could; vacation bible school, church daycare, coaching youth soccer, manning the fireworks stand or the concessions at Chadron State College. She gave her time to many disability programs within the Chadron Community Foundation such as Handicap Reach Out, Western Community Health Resources, and most recently Closer to Home. Vicki was first in line to provide her time to others. She was a Chadron State College Eagles fan and enjoyed talking about football and basketball with her son. She sincerely cared about her community and those who knew her undoubtedly mourn the loss of her spirit, taken too soon. It is often said Vicki never met a stranger. She could spark up a conversation with anyone. Mostly she talked about her faith, her kids, and her Grandson whom she was most proud of. You may remember her from her time working at Walmart. The greeter position was perfect for her. It kept her connected to the community she loved, and later as a clerk she would get to know people by chatting through the line as she scanned your groceries. Met with more adversity in her life than most people, Vicki always had a smile on her face. Even in the darkness her light shined for those around her. She was a true humanitarian. Vicki is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Herb & Sally (Naylor) Richenbach. She is survived in death by her three Sisters; Karen (Forrest) Dryden, Jean (Jack) Mitchell, and Mary Welchlin. Her three Children; Brad (Sunshine) Roberts, Sally Roberts, Deana (Justin) Gausman, and Grandson Braden Asher Roberts. Also survived is her ex-husband, Dean, and many nieces and nephews alike. A memorial service honoring Vicki will be held in the spring of 2022 in a place where the sun shines as bright as her spirit once did. If you wish to attend her memorial please contact Brad Roberts via Facebook, or mail cards to 3520 Stockwell Street, Lincoln, NE 68506. Charitable contributions can be made in her honor to Closer to Home, or the Chadron Community Foundation.

Until we meet again we’ll just have to take it one day at a time. - Vicki
