Gordon

Virginia Lee Trueblood, age 93, of Gordon, Nebraska, died on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Gordon Memorial Hospital.

Virginia was born on May 27, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Marie Hagey and Ben W. Sanders. She spent most of her life in Gordon and surrounding area. She was confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in 1939 and graduated from Gordon High School in 1944, after which she became a telephone operator with Northwestern Bell.  She later met and married Jack G. Trueblood in Gordon in 1946. They had four children and Virginia soon returned to working for the telephone company. She became a widow in 1966 and worked hard to support and nurture her family. After conversion of the Gordon telephone office in 1971, it became necessary for Virginia to move to Sidney, NE, to continue her career with Northwestern Bell until her retirement in 1984. She returned to make her home in Gordon again in 1995, where she assisted in the care of her elderly mother for several years.

Virginia was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Gordon American Legion Auxiliary and First Presbyterian Church. She spent countless hours enjoying various card games with friends and family. She enjoyed gardening, feeding birds and squirrels, and caring for a succession of spoiled house cats. There was an annual family camping trip to Lake McConaughy, where the arrival of “Grandma T” and her taco salad and home-baked cookies were eagerly anticipated. Birthdays and other special occasions were always acknowledged with a card or a call. Favorite TV included Husker football and volleyball, PBR bull riding, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Jack, brother Ben R. Sanders and both her parents.

Survivors include her children, Dennis Trueblood of Chandler, AZ, Judith (Dan) Keller of Lincoln, NE, Ben (Monna) Trueblood of North Platte, NE, and Valerie (Keith) Lehmann of Littleton, CO. Grandchildren are Nicholas, Justin, and Emily Lehmann; Matthew Keller, Gina Kohel, Erin (Jesse) Bouwens, Amy (Eric) Danielson, and Scott Trueblood; great grandchildren are Madison, Joshua, and Elizabeth Kohel, Aubrey Danielson, Teagan and Erin Bouwens. Virginia will also be missed by her sister Lita Benson of Upton, WY, brother-in-law Tom Trueblood of Akron, OH, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the First Presbyterian Church or the Gordon American Legion Auxiliary and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
