Wayne Schildhauer

December 5, 1942 — November 8, 2022

Wayne was born December 5th, 1942, in Chadron, Nebraska and exited life's highway on November 8th, 2022.

His parents Edwin and Frances (Elsberry) Schildhauer raised their son in a home in rural Hay Springs, where he was later joined by his brothers Marvin and Gerald. After high school graduation, Wayne served his country by joining the US Marines.   After the completion of his service, he returned to western Nebraska where he worked on local ranches.

Wayne was a very blessed man because he had two loves in his life, and he knew what those loves were.

His 1st love was his family.

Wayne married his bride Linda Henry in 2007.  They shared a life and home in Dix, Nebraska.  Wayne was also the "DAD" of 6 children.  Cheryl Ann Schildhauer of Omaha Nebraska, Butch (Minnie) Schildhauer of Monticello, GA, Laura (Mike) Howie of Locust Grove, GA, Carol Saunders of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cynthia (Richard) Sack of Pine Bluffs, WY and James Thompson of Dix, Nebraska.  Wayne was also Grandpa to 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  He was also proud that he was a brother and uncle.

His 2nd love was driving a truck.

Wayne always loved the western/cowboy lifestyle, but his heart was always in driving a truck, and not just any truck, Wayne was a BULLHAULER!!!!  This was a huge point of pride for him.   His animals were treated like they were vacationing in a 5-star resort.

He loved trucks that looked good and sparkled with a lot of chrome.  It was a must that it had lots of "Pulling" power and if they could run triple digits, well that was all the better.  He would cuss the DOT and 4 wheelers, but they were all part of the lifestyle that he treasured.

He was asked what about the truck he loved so much.   His response was very direct.   It was the freedom and the feeling it stirred inside.  He said there was nothing like watching the heat roll off the pavement in the desert or the look of a night sky when the moon was so bright that it dimmed the stars.

Hey BULLHAULER!

You have done what every trucker out there is trying to do--YOU found the end of that long white line.   Thanks for the steep grades and the millions of miles you've put behind you.  Rest easy trucker and let all of your brothers of the highway take the wheel for a while.

We love and miss you!
